Green hydrogen at an industrial site: RCT Hydrogen begins production of electrolysis plants in Saarland

Tags:
Konstanz/Saarbrücken, 29 April 2026 – RCT Hydrogen is commencing production of electrolysis systems for industrial hydrogen production in Saarbrücken. The first systems are being manufactured for megawatt-scale hydrogen projects for German industrial companies, which will utilise them under a ‘Hydrogen-as-a-Service’ model. Industrial companies produce hydrogen on-site, which is used directly at the location, achieving independency of energy prices and fossil fuels. Further systems with an electrolysis capacity of over 30 MW are currently in the planning stage.

Following the signing of the cooperation agreements between RCT Hydrogen and Brück GmbH in Saarland, preparations for the hydrogen equipment production facility have begun. Production of the electrolysis plants, with an annual capacity of 250 MW (megawatts), will commence with the assembly of a 5.0 MW electrolyser in June 2026. Delivery and commissioning are scheduled to take place in 2026 at a German industrial company.

The electrolysis stacks – the heart of the hydrogen plants – are manufactured by our experienced production partner, BRÜCK GmbH, in Saarbrücken. The company’s experience in plant engineering for oil and gas production has enabled the rapid integration of electrolysis unit manufacturing at the production site. Preparations are now underway, and production of the first electrolysis units is set to begin in June.

“We can see that companies need concrete solutions to address the bottlenecks of availability and cost. Not in ten years’ time, but ideally yesterday,” says Prof. Dr Peter Fath, founder of the RCT Group. “Eliminating dependence on imports by producing hydrogen locally can be a decisive factor in this regard.”

The proven technology used in RCT Hydrogen’s systems is known as alkaline pressure electrolysis and is recognised as a durable and efficient technology. Thanks to the high quality standards of a premium German manufacturer and TÜV-certified technology, the first industrial customers have been persuaded to integrate hydrogen production into their own manufacturing processes.

A 2.5 MW electrolysis demonstration plant is also planned at the production site in Saarbrücken. The hydrogen produced here at the Brück site could directly replace natural gas in the high-temperature processes involved in production, as Dr Frederic Scholl, Head of Business Development at Brück GmbH, explains: “We see this as an opportunity to utilise hydrogen in production. This would be a first step away from fossil fuels in the industrial production of forged steel components.” “Our particularly high quality standards are our hallmark, under the motto: ‘Experience Made in Germany with BRÜCK’,” Dr Scholl continues.

This cost-effective production of green hydrogen is also made possible by the use of highly cost-optimised production equipment. In this regard, RCT Hydrogen benefits from its partner Guofuhee, a supplier of key components with years of experience in the production of hydrogen equipment. RCT Hydrogen has established successful partnerships across the entire value chain, with the key manufacturing steps planned to take place in Germany and Europe. Dr Eric Rüland, VP Sales and Products, adds, focusing on the benefits for customers: “The high efficiency combined with the long service life of the electrolysis systems represents a decisive competitive advantage for customers. This ensures reliably low costs for green, CO2-free hydrogen of less than EUR 5.00 per kilogram.”

About RCT GH GmbH

RCT GH GmbH, based in Konstanz, develops and manufactures solutions for the production of green hydrogen. These solutions are based on water electrolysis. In collaboration with its Chinese partner Guofuhee and the engineering team at RCT Solutions GmbH, the company is developing production facilities for European customers. The focus is on durability and high efficiency throughout the entire service life of the plant. In addition to industrial plants ranging from 1 to 5 MW, RCT Hydrogen also serves large-scale projects in the 100-megawatt and above power class.
